about

As hard as it is to imagine one of the groups that has managed better in the purpose of recreating the Garage-Folk sounds of mid-Sixties, at the turn of the nineties and the two thousand came from the provinces of Piacenza and Pavia. The Rookies debuted with this 7" EP right after the compilation "Time To Time" on Teen Sound Records. Their style was immediately distinguished by the ability to best interpret the purest Garage-Folk American sound exploded throughout 1965-67. Later on the band explored other musical fields (always Sixties-inspired) like Dutch freakbeat (typical of The Outsiders) and after The Rookies disbanded singer Giovanni formed his next act (The Backdoor Society) deciding to follow the steps of the band Wally Tax. Back to their debut EP you'll find four obscure (at least by 1998' standards) covers: "half Of Wednesday" written by W. Proctor of We The People, one of the greatest Sixties Garage-Folk-Psych US bands; "I See The Light" originally by Vancouver's One Way Street; "The Setting Of Despair" a dark-tinged moody psych Folker penned by Rhode Island's The Crystal Chandelier and lastly "High Flying Bird" originally written and first recorded by Billy Edward Wheeler. Four great American Sixties tunes rediscovered by a garage bands out of Italy, of all places. Their second EP and subsequent album, both released on Teen Sound are sold out since over ten years but we managed to find a few copies of their debut 7", a little collectors' item not to be missed.
