about

Bang! - Wild Blood/Cousin Clyde/Unknown Band
(Teen Sound Records /Misty Lane TEENS 002)

French band Bang! commit three songs to vinyl.
Bengt Wallman puts aside his wine and baguette to have a close listen:

Now, here’s one of those singles where I bet you the B-side will get most spins. The A-side is reminiscent of the Deviants, which I guess in some camps is a compliment but not in mine. (As a matter of fact is a cover of the SEEDS,but the guy who reviewed this record didn't know that! Producer's Note)

The first track of the B-side; Cousin Clyde is hard to describe but tries to marry off the Pink Floyd’s Bike with the Creation or the Smoke and subsequently ends up sounding a bit like a fucked up britpop-era Blur demo. But then to finish off the last track Unknown Band rolls out of the speakers as the most enjoyable and almost forces you to totally re-evaluate the previous track.

I guess the aim once again is set on 60’s psychedelia but as by a stroke of luck, or possibly pure genius, Unknown Band ends up somewhere in the vicinity of the Television Personalities. A wonderfully loony little tune, Unknown Band has great swirling sound effects and hilarious tongue in cheek lyrics about an unknown band banging away on their instruments. “All hail the unknown band, all they need is a helping hand, then they might get their big breakthrough...”

- All hail indeed. (UPPERS site review)
