about

The MOVEMENTS (Sweden)
"Follow The Movements" (Teen Sound Records) LP

Get ready for a smorgasbord of stylistic variety with Follow The Movements, the latest LP by The Movements, a Swedish group whose music runs the gamut of rock from a more conventional style to garage to psychedelic.

Follow the Movements is a 10th anniversary offering, combining previously unreleased recordings with their very first EP, Drag Me Up. The eclectic nature of the compositions is evident in the stark contrast between tracks.

The album starts out with “My Confession,” a fast-paced, drum-heavy track which, true to its name, is replete with sentimental tell-all lyrics. A dark guitar theme makes several appearances throughout the track. Later in the album, “Thinking Too Fast” starts out with a classic guitar riff. A short, toe-tapping number, it’s over almost as soon as it begins. “You Don’t Know” stands out from the rest of the tracks with a slow, Eastern-inspired guitar theme, periodic drum rolls, and harmonized vocals.

Fun and full of surprises at every turn, Follow The Movements is an excellent survey of a band that has a good grasp on its own individual musical style. Punctuated with sentimental, deeply expressive lines, enthusiastic and contagious rhythms, and the occasional high-energy scream, the album is attention-grabbing and well worth the time spent listening to it.

Key Tracks: Red Headed Girl, You Don’t Know, Thinking Too Fast
